The idea for From, her popped into my head when I was studying abroad in 2015. I spent most of my time surrounded by a group of women. They were all so different from each other, with unique stories to share. We connected in ways I never expected. I wanted to create a platform for other women to be able to connect to each other, no matter where in the world they were.
From, her is a project stemmed from the concept of letter writing. I started out by writing my own letters to women that have had a significant influence in my own life and having them write out a letter to whoever they wanted. I’ve gotten letters to future husbands, to old friends, but most importantly to themselves.
Letter writing feels like a lost form of intimate connection. I miss the feeling of receiving personal handwritten letters. There’s a genuine sincerity to the idea of someone taking time out of there day to write something personally addressed to you. I want others to feel the same warmth inside when they visit from From, her as they do from receiving a letter in the mail.
Ultimately, the goal is to foster a deep connection among the community of women (and hopefully, other genders) who visit and participate in the site and to reassure them that they’re never alone.
